Super Thursday Primary Ends with Few Surprises

LAKE CITY–Super Thursday primary season ended Thursday promptly at 5:00 p.m. EST. The winner of the primary–to no one’s surprise– was Same Day Shipping party candidate Jonny.

The vote tallies, including percentages and total number of votes received by the top five candidates, will be posted shortly on the main web page of the campaign. UPDATE: The results of the previous primary are now available by clicking the link under the poll results.

The "gardening man" scores a win in the first primary

“I’d like to thank all my supporters who worked so hard to propel me to victory,” Jonny said. “If we can keep this momentum going, there will be a very handsome face on our boxes come July,” he promised.

As the new “Fabulous Monday” primary season voting got underway, early votes were putting Smart P.O. party candidate Bennett in the top position. As he had predicted in an earlier story, the opportunity to finally make a showing on the leaderboard had a salutatory effect on his popularity, at least in the short term.

Time will tell if he can keep the votes coming in high enough volumes to withstand the Same Day Shipping juggernaut.

Specialist party candidate Leigh had poured on a last-minute rally to beat It’s Time To… party candidate Patrick to the third place slot just before the primary ended. She continued her rise in the polls in early voting in the new primary, taking a second place position soon after voting in the new season began.

A recap of the primary as well as an announcement of the drawing winners will be broadcast in an election update slated to premiere on Monday, March 19.

Jonny Widens Lead in Final Days of Super Thursday

LAKE CITY–Same Day Shipping candidate Jonny increased his lead over his closest competitor to a comfortable six percentage points in the waning days of the first primary segment of HUB’s election for president of You’re the Boss.

The Jonny machine has been wildly successful in getting a lot of voters in the habit of voting every day, according to election monitors. For every two votes cast for any other of the eight candidates, Jonny has been collecting one.

Leigh needs to convert more voters into "once-a-day" loyalists

A developing sub-plot in the primary drama is who will take third place. It’s Time To… party candidate Patrick has been fighting hard to stave off a challenge from Specialist party candidate Leigh. Many pundits had predicted that Leigh’s broad-based support from the auto-recycling community would make her a formidable candidate, but so far, she has been unable to get enough of them to adopt the “every day” voting habit characteristic of Jonny’s constituents.

The results of the Super Thursday Primary will be broadcast in a HUB-TV segment that will air on March 19’s Monday Morning Minute. The announcement of the winners of the primary prize drawing will also be included in that broadcast.

Its Time To… Have a Foal!

LAKE CITY–Patrick may be treading water in the polls, but he’s been floating on a cloud nevertheless since he welcomed a newborn horse into his family.

As fate would have it, the long-awaited birth happened just after the It’s Time To… party candidate had left town with his family for a vacation. He received word as he stepped on board a cruise ship bound for the Bahamas, so it would be a week before he could actually meet his new baby, named Lexi after the teen-aged caretaker Patrick had left in charge of the horses during his absence.

The baby horse, a quarter horse/paint with vivid markings, is adjusting nicely to her surroundings, and may be the only bright spot in Patrick’s life right now as Leigh seems to be challenging his third-place spot in the polls.

Baby Vote Scandal Debunked

(Editorial by Ken L)–Same Day Shipping party candidate Jonny may not be getting much sleep with a new baby in the house, but his integrity is fresh as a daisy now that allegations of selling access to his newborn in exchange for votes have been thoroughly put to rest.

I took it upon myself to investigate these serious allegations and came up entirely empty-handed. I have personally spoken with many family and friends of the candidate; all of them had seen young Tucker, but none reported any sort of pressure to vote.

Julie L., a friend of Jonny’s family was typical of the response I received: “Yes, I saw him a few days ago,” she said. “He is adorable! He had on a little crochet cap and he was very cute.”

No votes were required to hold this baby

Another near relative, Julie C., echoed the sentiment. “At no time did Jonny even mention the election,” she said. “And he’s even cuter than the pictures they have on the website.”

The principal accuser, Samuel of the Savings Sheriff party, seems to have tangled with the wrong baby in his attempt to scandalize his opponent. Next time, Samuel, pick an ugly baby and you might get a little more traction.

Jonny Regains Top Spot Amid Allegations of Baby Pandering

LAKE CITY–Same Day Shipping candidate Jonny regained his lead in the polls late Friday and has held on to the top spot through the weekend amid heavy voting.

Jonny’s resurgence following a two-day leave of absence to attend the birth of his third child indicates that he has not lost his momentum in this election. But the joy in the camp of the Same Day Shipping party was partially obscured by allegations of unethical use of his newborn son to gain votes.

Can young Tucker trust his own dad not to use him as a campaign prop?

“He won’t allow anyone to see his new baby unless they cast a vote for him,” claimed Savings Sheriff party candidate Samuel. “That’s the price of admission. Now, I ask you: would you sell your baby for a vote?”

When asked to respond to the claim, Jonny heaved a persecuted sigh.

“I did say that to Samuel,” he admitted, “–as a light-hearted joke just to bait my opponent. But anyone who would actually believe that I would do that is immature and ridiculous.”

In related news, Friday was a record voting day with nearly 200 votes cast.

This is a developing story. More will be reported as it becomes available.

Jonny’s Youngest Voter

LAKE CITY–Jonny returned to the campaign trail yesterday with important news–the long awaited birth of his son, Tucker Owen Guinn.

Not a moment too soon: Tucker Guinn's vote will be sorely needed to regain the top spot for the Same Day Shipping party candidate

Jonny had suspended his campaign to attend the birth of his son, who was born February 21. Both baby and mother are doing well.

Boss’ Daughter Casts Vote for… Patrick?

LAKE CITY–Kaylee Curry, 11, admitted to her father today that she had cast her vote for It’s Time To… party candidate Patrick.

Kaylee Curry: loyalty tempered by pragmatism

What makes this story newsworthy is that Kaylee’s dad is company president and incumbent candidate Gabriel.

According to election rules, family members of HUB employees have only one vote, which makes Kaylee’s choice that much more startling.

Gabriel was philosophical about the apparent disloyalty of someone so close to his heart. “I don’t take this personally,” the You’re the Boss party leader said. “It’s not about rebellion; I know my daughter loves her daddy more than anything. She definitely would have voted for me if she thought I stood a chance of winning. She just wanted to get behind someone that she could help put over the top.”

Gabriel’s election bid has so far failed to catch fire. His performance in the polls has up until now been far behind Patrick’s, who has consistently held the third-place position for the majority of the Super Thursday primary season, behind Jonny and Samuel. The fact that even close family members are bailing on Gabriel’s campaign so early in the election does not bode well for the incumbent candidate.

For his part, Patrick was elated to learn he had peeled away such a symbolic vote to his campaign. “That is awesome!” said the former bull rider. “It just shows how well Gabriel has raised his kids so they could think for themselves and choose the best candidate.”

It was not known who the remaining Curry children, Alyssa and Michael, were supporting.
