Dustup over ‘candy’ promise

LAKE CITY–Savings Sheriff party candidate took aim today at one of his opponents in the race for the White Box by calling into question one of her campaign promises.

“In her stump speech, Leigh promises to put a ‘small bag of candies’ in the next order of anyone who votes for her,” Sam declared. “I’ve talked to the shipping guys, and they have told me that they haven’t seen Leigh put anything of the sort in anyone’s package. If she can’t keep her most trivial campaign promises, how can she be trusted to be president of ‘You’re the Boss?'”

When asked to comment on the accusation, Leigh quickly defended her record. “I know my voters are getting their candies,” she said. “I never claimed that I would put them in the boxes myself. How inefficient would that be? A mature leader knows how to delegate responsibility.”

This news agency has evaluated the claims and counterclaims of this controversy and come to the following conclusions: What Leigh actually promised is as follows:

For each vote, I will assure you that you will find a small bag of candy in your next order.

She is correct that she never promised to personally give out candy. However, the promise isn’t really very significant because everyone who orders from HUB receives the same candy treatment regardless of who they vote for, or if they even vote at all.

We’re going to score this controversy a draw.
